Blue Sea Studios is a well-established boutique development company, founded in 2009. Our specialty is cloud-based software for financial companies. We offer end-to-end consulting and automation services, streamlining business processes and building applications for internal tracking and handling customer relationships.

Who works at Blue Sea Studios?

Luke Williams is Blue Sea Studios' founder and CEO. Luke started his career as a programmer on Microsoft Office, building the first version of Word's Save as PDF feature. After an assignment with Microsoft China, he left the corporate world to start a new software company, combining high software standards with location flexibility. As a remote CEO, Luke was awarded by AirBnB as a top 100 all-time traveler.

We are currently a four-person team, with staff working from the USA and Canada. We're in the process of hiring two new developers to meet customer demand.

What is the day-to-day like at Blue Sea Studios?

Most days, staff have extended periods of uninterrupted time. Most staff clear email just once in the morning, to leave the rest of the day for the creative process. We use Slack sparingly - only for items that are same-day urgent. This creates an environment where we can focus on development for hours at a time and do our best work.

We have weekly half-hour team stand-up meetings, and one-on-one meetings between each staff member and the CEO every two weeks. Once a month, we have a longer all-staff meeting and a dev team meeting.

Blue Sea is set up to allow unplugging outside of standard work hours. It's rare that we need to get something done urgently on evenings or weekends - generally 2-3 times a year or less.

We're a small company with a major impact. On average, by driving 10 minutes anywhere in the United States you will have passed a business insured through Blue Sea Studios software. We fully manage loan portfolios with values totaling $500 million (USD).

We work with national insurance and loan providers based in the USA. We have 10+-year working relationships with national business insurance providers including Francis L. Dean and Heffernan Insurance Brokers, automating their customer processes including applications, quotes, purchasing, modifications, and administration. We built and maintain the #1 insurance sites (per Google ranking) for camera rentals and karate, among many other products.
